Questions about your hail damage?

Common Questions
& Information

What can I do if my insurance company undervalues (lowballs) my claim?

Lowballing is a common tactic used by insurance companies to underpay claims. Lowballing is a breach of the insurance contract and is potentially bad faith claims handling. If you feel like your insurance company is lowballing your claim, call MGW for a free consultation.

What can I do if my insurance company is not responding to requests from me or my contractor?

Ins. 6.11, known as the Insurance claim settlement practices act, requires that your insurance company responds to your requests within 10 days of receipt.

What if my insurance company will not pay for the repairs necessary to meet the current building codes?

Most insurance policies contain law and ordinance coverage that obligates the insurance company to pay for any code upgrades required by a repair from hail. Sometime this coverage is only limited coverage up to a certain dollar amount. Call MGW today for a complimentary policy review.

Can my insurance company refuse to pay for my general contractor’s overhead and profit?

Overhead and profit is a necessary part of proper construction management depending on the complexity of the job. As a general rule, overhead and profit is necessary if multiple trades (roofers, carpenters, plumbers) will be working on the same construction project.

Why is my insurance company hiring inspectors that are denying my hail damage?

Some insurance companies rely on adjusters or ladder assist companies to do inspections for them. While these companies are sometimes referred to an “independent,” they are anything but. They oftentimes have a very long, financially-dependent relationship with the insurance company who hired them. Make sure to have your roof inspected by a truly independent contractor.

What if my replacement costs coverage has been taken out of my policy?

There are very specific rules on how an insurance company must remove coverage from an insurance policy. If the coverages in your policy have been changed or altered in any way call MGW today for a free policy review.

My insurance company claims they have a contractor who will perform the work for less. Do they have to provide the names of the contractor?

This is another common tactic of insurance companies. If your insurance company is claiming they have a contractor willing to do the work for less than your contractor’s estimate, request the contact information and estimate from their contractor to verify its validity.
